The first master class took place in October 2007 with the title “The transmission of sound and vibration at building junctions” by Prof. E.(Eddy) Gerretsen
in Dutch.
It was a second time success in 2008. More information about past master classes can be found below: |

The goal of this Master Class was to study building acoustics in depth. For three days, theoretical knowledge
was gained and laboratory experiments were performed in the presence of leading world-renown professional
prof. ir. E. Gerretsen. The focus of this Master Class was on determining and interpreting the transfer of acoustical energy across the junction of structural elements in buildings. The Master Class
was complemented by workshops in calculation models and measuring sound (vibrational power transmission across a junction and radiation efficiency of structural elements.)

Last April the third master class on room acoustics took place. After A.C. Gade and J.H. Rindel master
E. Kahle shared
his approach on designing room acoustics in relation to architectural
criteria. Interesting discussions arise about the implications of room
design on the resulting acoustic quality and the correlation between the
objective criteria and the perceptual factors. The participants
‘experienced’ this correlation by a listening test that was integral
part of the master class. During a concert of the Symphony Orchestra of
New Russia they filled in questionnaires of which the results can be
found
here.
One of the participant’s responses:
“In a scientific environment you can breathe free from your daily work, concentrate on the information presented and exchange ideas and findings with colleagues from all over the world”.

In January the Master Class on room acoustic prediction modelling took place. The international group of participants joined the three days session with master
dr. J.H. Rindel. The participants exchanged their experiences with modelling different kinds of spaces using various software tools, etc. A workshop in modelling and simulating the acoustics of the open plan office of the Laboratorium voor Akoestiek where the master class took place, showed the difficulties of prediction modelling, the interpretation of the results and the use of auralisation. Auralisation was proven to be a magnificent tool during a Dolby Surround demonstration of the Erato project on Roman theaters and the Århus concert hall in Denmark using Odeon. |

April 2009 the first international Master
Class by dr. A.C. Gade took place at the Laboratorium voor
Akoestiek of Eindhoven University of Technology. Together with the 8
participants many room acoustical issues have been discussed in three
days. Also the workshop with Big Band Lier gave new insights into stage
acoustics. One of the participants response: "Very intensive days that took a lot of energy, but also gave a lot of energy in return! All aspects were treated: theory, cases, measuring and modeling. We reached the top and I enjoyed it enormously". |
