Projects in the field of building acoustics concern sound insulation, structure borne sound and installation noise. Some projects are related to the development of the EN-12354 standards for the measurement of sound insulation and a recently finished PHD projects on flanking sound transmission of lightweight building structures and sound transmission through pipe systems. If you are interested in the latest new projects or have a project in mind of your own contact Constant Hak. The measurement of high sound insulation with noise signals can be a problem because the sound power of the sound source is limited and/or the background noise is too high. A new technique has been investigated using Sweep and MLS signals to measure high sound insulation. Results of the research have been presented in a scientific paper (download paper). In a competition design for a ground noise barrier along a Schiphol runway a screen filled with water was introduced as an flexible sound barrier. However, the sound insulation of a water barrier was unknown. To convince the competition jury a sound insulation measurement has been performed in the acoustics laboratory as part of a master student project. Results of the research have been presented in a scientific paper (download paper). Lightweight structures with gypsum board walls and ceilings are more and more being used in building practice. To be able to predict the sound insulation behaviour of these type of structures the damping of some typical structures have been measured in the laboratory. This master project was part of a PHD project on flanking sound transmission of lightweight building structures. Results of the research have been presented in a PHD thesis (download thesis). |

A gypsum board wall structure is hung on springs from the ceiling. By striking the structure with a hammer and measuring the vibrations on the structure the acoustic damping is determined. |
