January 18 the first two master students received their Master Degree for a graduation project in Architectural Acoustics. The diploma was handed out by their supervisor prof. ir. L. van Luxemburg. The students graduated on the following two projects: A building for jazz music is designed as a project for the master architecture as well as master building physics. The project will be situated at the central train station in Amsterdam to form a platform for musicians to interact with each other, travellers, tourists and inhabitants of the city. All architectural as well as acoustical aspects have been treated in the project.
Based on an existing competition design by O.M.A. for a performing arts centre in Morocco, all acoustical aspects have been treated. Materials and facilities are proposed to optimise the room acoustic quality of the two theatres using room acoustical prediction modelling software. Also, structural details have been proposed to control the sound insulation within the building and towards outside.
